The movement to bring back ‘risky’ play for children
We found this article in the Globe and Mail that strongly supports what our Youth Advisory Group has been telling us, let us fall down so we can learn to get back up again! This article discusses how parents are "judged as irresponsible for letting their children run wild at parks, playing on things deemed too dangerous for them" and how this "is merely one symptom of our bubble-wrapped, hyper-protective parenting culture". The article goes on to discuss how recent research supports the idea of "risky" play and that some cities such as Calgary are already getting behind the idea by creating adventure playgrounds.
