Our Youth Advisory Group has been hard at work over the past year. They began meeting in November and, after some discussion around the issues concerning young people these days, they decided on the topic of Safe Risk and Overprotection. Since then, they have been busy making an informational and entertaining film, hosting a round table discussion and participating in safe risk activities. Check out the timeline to see what else they have been doing!
What have we been up to?
While at RKY the youth and their friends learned about safety, cooperation and teamwork. Although some of them were a bit apprehensive about the activities, they all worked together and supported each other. In the end, the youth all had a great time learning how to safely step outside of their comfort zones. Thanks for making this wonderful experience posssible RKY!

Overprotection & Safe Risk Documentary
Back in December of 2014, the Youth Advisory Group began talking about the issue of overprotection and safe risk. Many of the youth had stories to tell about the issue and they were eager to learn more. They explored the issue through a variety of means including reading and reflecting on recent news articles, interviewing experts, commenting on current research, and experimenting with how to take safe risks through the use of a high ropes course.
From the beginning of this process the youth felt it was important to share what they had learned with their peers, parents, teachers, and all the way up to government officials. This documentary captures the learning experience of the youth and shares the take home messages that they feel are important to pass along. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!
